3 Days in Copenhagen: Capsule Wardrobe Planning for Your Trip. We’re planning an exciting trip to Copenhagen, Denmark this summer, and as I mentioned in a previous post, I love thinking about what I’ll wear on vacation. It helps me figure out what I might still need to purchase or what I already have in my closet that’s perfect for the trip. Since we’ll be spending three days in Copenhagen before heading to Norway, I’ve started planning some outfits to make sure I’m comfortable, stylish, and prepared for all the sightseeing we’ll be doing. Here’s a glimpse into my outfit planning process for the trip!
Why I Love Planning My Outfits in Advance
Thinking through outfits ahead of time makes packing so much easier. It also helps me create a capsule wardrobe, which is especially useful when traveling. A capsule wardrobe allows you to mix and match a few key pieces to create multiple outfits, saving both space in your luggage and time when getting dressed in the mornings. For Copenhagen’s summer weather, I’ve chosen a color palette that’s mostly neutral with a pop of blue. This makes it easy to combine pieces for different looks without overpacking. Plus, it’s ideal for a destination where we’ll be walking a lot—comfort is key!
Outfit 1: Casual Sightseeing Day
For the first day of exploring Copenhagen, I want an outfit that’s both stylish and practical. We’ll be visiting iconic landmarks like Tivoli Gardens, the Nyhavn Canal, and the Little Mermaid statue, so comfort is a top priority.
- Top: A simple T-shirt from my pack of basic tees. I can easily pair it with anything, and it’s breathable for warm days. Add a zipped sweatshirt for an easy layer.
- Bottom: A pair of linen pants. Linen is perfect for hot weather, and these pants are comfortable for walking around all day while looking chic.
- Shoes: Tennis shoes (sneakers) to keep my feet happy during hours of sightseeing. They’re practical, but I’ve chosen a sleek style to keep the look clean and put together.
- Accessories: A pair of stylish sunglasses to protect my eyes from the summer sun.

Outfit 2: Dressier for Dinner or a Night Out
On at least one evening, I want to dress up a bit for a nice dinner out in Copenhagen. I’ve found a pair of dress shoes that are both stylish and comfortable enough for walking to the restaurant. Denmark’s capital is known for its incredible dining scene, so I want to be dressed appropriately but still feel comfortable.
- Top: A jumper with hints of blue. I love the vibrant blue color—it adds a fun pop to my neutral wardrobe. Plus, the jumper can easily transition from day to night. Pair with the denim shirt but would also work this the zip sweatshirt for a more casual look.
- Bottom: I’m sticking with my linen pants for the evening. They’re dressy enough to pair with the jumper and comfortable enough to wear all night.
- Shoes: Dress shoes that are stylish and practical, with no heel to keep my feet happy on cobblestone streets.
- Accessories: A simple necklace and my sunglasses to add a little extra flair.

Outfit 3: Another Day of Exploring
On the second day of sightseeing, I’ll continue with comfortable and versatile pieces that can keep me cool while exploring Copenhagen’s trendy neighborhoods and museums.
- Top: One of my T-shirts from the pack again. I’ll switch up the color to keep things fresh, but they all work well with my other pieces.
- Bottom: A pair of joggers. These are perfect for active sightseeing, and the soft fabric makes them super comfortable while walking.
- Shoes: Tennis shoes to make sure I’m set for a full day of sightseeing. I love how they pair with both casual and more put-together outfits.
- Accessories: I’ll keep it simple with sunglasses

Outfit 4: Layering for Extra Comfort
Copenhagen’s weather can be a bit unpredictable in the summer, so I’ll want to layer up in the mornings and evenings. For this, I’ve got a denim shirt (Jean shirt) that can easily be thrown over any outfit for added warmth or style.
- Top: My T-shirt again, with the denim shirt layered over it.
- Bottom: Either linen pants or joggers depending on how much walking I plan to do. The linen pants are perfect for a more polished look, while the joggers are great for a super comfortable day.
- Shoes: Tennis shoes—again, they’re perfect for any situation!

How to Make It All Work
I’ve kept the color scheme neutral with a bit of blue as an accent to keep things cohesive. This helps me mix and match easily, and I’m confident I can create several outfits using just a few key pieces. I’ve chosen items that are practical for the amount of walking we’ll be doing, but I’ve also included pieces like the blue jumper and dress shoes so I can feel stylish when we head out for dinner or a night in the city.
I love how versatile everything is, and I feel ready for the trip. The key items—T-shirts, linen pants, joggers, a jumper, and dress shoes—are all comfortable for sightseeing, yet I’ll still feel put together for a night out.
Final Thoughts
By planning these outfits in advance, I’m feeling much more organized about packing for Copenhagen, and I’ll be able to enjoy the trip without worrying about what to wear. I hope this inspires you to start planning your own capsule wardrobe for travel. It’s amazing how easy it is to mix and match a few key pieces, and you’ll be prepared for any adventure, whether you’re walking through historic streets or enjoying a delicious meal at a Copenhagen restaurant.
Stay tuned for more travel planning updates, and happy packing!
