Hard to believe it’s already time to start thinking about school again! Summer always flies by, and here we are, getting those school supplies ready.
One of the things I really appreciate about our school is that they offer a supply kit fundraiser—such a smart way to support the school and save myself a Target run. I usually go that route, and then just pick up a few extras that we either love or want to refresh for the year.
We keep things pretty simple. We reuse backpacks from year to year (highly recommend if yours are still in good shape!). My daughter is still obsessed with her corgi backpack from last year—it’s adorable and holding up great. But I’ll admit, I also really like this classic black and white one I spotted recently. Might be one I save for a future year.
One thing we always prioritize: a good water bottle. I know the popular ones get a lot of hype, but they really are worth it. They don’t leak much, are easy to clean, and the built-in straw is super convenient.
Another fun thing she got last Christmas was a fully stocked pencil/pen case—just like this one. It was such a great gift idea, and honestly it’s made back-to-school prep even easier. She already has all her basics covered! We’ll just toss in a few colorful sticky notes (how pretty are these?) and she’s good to go.
When it comes to locker stuff—well, we’ve learned we don’t really need it. Her school day moves so fast that she mostly carries everything in her backpack. But if you’ve got a kid who uses their locker more, it’s definitely worth picking up a few simple organizers or magnets.
And I have to mention this t-shirt—it’s one from my own design collection, and I just love the fit and style for school days. Simple, cute, and comfy.
All in all, our back-to-school shopping list is pretty short. Middle school doesn’t require a ton, especially when you reuse what you can and focus on what your child actually needs.
Up next: I’ll be sharing a quick supply roundup for my high school son. His list is even simpler—usually just a few folders, a notebook, and some good pencils. Keep an eye out for that post later this week if you’ve got a teen boy to shop for!
