Updated Teen Girl Packing for Norway: Essentials for Summer

Last year, I put together a teen packing guide for summer in preparation for our upcoming trip to Norway. I started planning early for several reasons—mainly because I love organizing outfits and finding ways to save money on purchases. Now that we’re getting closer to our trip, I’ve updated the guide to reflect what we actually bought. One big change? My daughter wanted more purple in her wardrobe than I originally planned, so we made some adjustments to match her style! Check out Teen Girl Packing Norway!

Things to Consider

When packing for Norway, I’m keeping a few key things in mind. The weather can shift quickly from cold to warm and back again in a single day, something I’m somewhat familiar with from living in the Midwest—especially in the spring. Because of this, layering is essential in my outfit planning. Additionally, since we’re not just visiting Norway but also stopping in Denmark and exploring larger cities, I want to ensure our outfits are both practical and stylish for urban settings. Lastly, each of us will be bringing only a carry-on suitcase and a backpack, so I’m being mindful not to overpack. Below is the packing list I came up with!

Teen Girls First Todo

Before deciding what to pack, I highly recommend going through your current wardrobe first. I didn’t do this before my original packing post, but this time, I took the time to go through my daughter’s clothes—and I’m so glad I did! Since she’s growing, a lot of her clothes no longer fit, which meant we needed to replace more than I initially thought. I also realized she already had a couple of beige button-up shirts, so now I’m rethinking whether we need to buy the one I had originally planned. Taking inventory of what you already have can help you avoid unnecessary purchases and make packing much easier!

Shoes for Teen Girl Packing Guide

I’m trying to stick to just three pairs of shoes for packing, but I know it’s going to be tough for my daughter to leave her Crocs behind! To save space, I’m thinking we’ll wear our hiking shoes on the plane, but I keep going back and forth on this since they’re not the easiest to slip on and off. She got her hiking boots for Christmas, which is one reason I love planning ahead—it allows me to spread out expenses and watch for sales to get the best deals.

We also bought flip-flops from Old Navy, but after trying them on, we had to exchange them for a larger size. As for dress shoes, I purchased the pair linked below for myself and absolutely love them. I had originally planned for my daughter to bring her Rothy’s, but now I’m not sure if they’ll match her dressier outfits. Shoe packing is definitely one of the hardest parts!

Outfits: she can dress up

We plan to eat at our Airbnb as much as possible to save money, but there will definitely be some dinners out. For those occasions, my daughter will bring a purple dress with flowers—the same one she picked for her band concert—which makes it a perfect, versatile choice for the trip. She’s also bringing a long-sleeved denim dress. While denim isn’t the most space-saving material, this will be the only denim item in her suitcase, so I think it’s worth bringing. It’s all about balancing practicality with making sure she has outfits she loves!

Layering Pieces

She already has a rain jacket, so that’s one less thing to worry about. For layering, I bought her a zip-up hoodie to pair with her purple dress for the concert, and it turned out to be a really nice piece. She’s also bringing a purple and blue button-up shirt, along with another button-up she already owns. If I were to buy an additional one, I’d go for a beige linen button-up, but since we’re trying to pack smart and avoid unnecessary purchases, I think we’ll stick with what she has!

Pants Packing Guide

We’re packing four pairs of pants for the trip, each chosen for versatility and comfort. First up are black leggings—a must-have since they work for both walking around town and hiking. Next, I got her a pair of zip-off pants that convert into shorts. She’s already worn them to school and loves them! They might not be everyone’s style, but she thinks they’re fun, and they’ll be perfect for unpredictable weather in Norway. The blue joggers are another great pick—not only are they stylish, but they’re also lightweight and easy to pack. Lastly, she’s bringing a pair of blue pants with white stripes, which look amazing and add a little extra flair to her travel wardrobe!

Shirts

For shirts, we’re aiming to pack four to five versatile options. At least one will be long-sleeved, though I’m leaning toward bringing two since they’re great for layering. A fun graphic tee is also a must, and I got her an Ariana-themed shirt that looks perfect with her striped pants.

For tanks, I bought a plum and a blue one—they aren’t her favorites, but they have great reviews, so maybe she’ll warm up to them! I like that they work well for layering, especially under button-up shirts. She also already has a beige tank, which is a great neutral option. My goal with packing shirts is versatility—each one should pair with at least two different pants, if not all of them, to maximize outfit options!

Other Items

Even though the temperatures aren’t high in Denmark or Norway, there are many opportunities to get in the water. To pack lightly one swimsuit will work, but we will likely pack two. I like this solid blue one. This swimsuit comes with a shirt cover. I’m not sure we are packing a towel but these are great. Our family’s favorite towels are these.

I would pack three bras, with one being a sports bra for hiking (medium support and high impact option). I would pack seven pairs of underwear. We are staying at an Airbnb, so we will be able to do laundry.

Love the colors in these sunglasses. Her purse she is taking it was a gift so here is a similar one.

Conclusion

Packing for a trip to Norway may seem like a big task, but with a little planning ahead, you can make sure your teen has everything they need for an adventure of a lifetime. By focusing on versatile, quality items that will stand up to the elements, you’ll be ready for whatever the Norwegian landscape throws your way. Whether it’s hiking in the mountains, exploring cities, or experiencing the local culture, this packing list will ensure your teen is comfortable, prepared, and stylish. Happy travels—and don’t forget to enjoy the journey! Thanks for checking out “Teen Girl Packing Norway!”
